In Northern Europe there is a huge boulder that has remained in the balance but at the same time in perfect balance for thousands of years:
Kummakivi is a large balanced rock in Ruokolahti , Finland . For about 11,000 years , the boulder – 7 meters long and weighing about 500,000 kg – has been lying on a convex rocky surface with a very small footprint but so firmly that it cannot be shaken by human force:
Kummakivi (“strange stone”) has been protected since 1962 . On top of the boulder grows a pine originating from the 1980s. The boulder is located in a forest in the western part of Ruokolahti municipality, near the Puumala border.
