Our skin is one of the organs of our body most exposed to the outside. Have you ever wondered what a hole in the skin looks like up close? Obviously, to be able to observe closely, you need to use a microscope. What you see in the picture is not a syringe needle hole, but a needle to make a tattoo. The hole is visible using colored scanning electron micrography (SEM).
Around the hole, skin cells of the epidermis can be seen surrounding the hole created by the needle.

The tattoo needle creates a hole in the superficial layer of the skin, reaching the dermis, where it releases the pigment. The dermis does not provide continuous replacement of cells, which can cause the deterioration of the tattoo, which is why it is permanent, even if it can fade over time. Tattoo needles penetrate the skin about 50 punctures per second.
